Common Sense Note
Parents need to know that this portal site has hundreds of games -- and what seems like hundreds of links to other Web sites. Most of the popular games (listed in the navigation) involved killing of one kind or another. Even Hangman is violent. They seem to be aimed at adolescent boys with content that's a bit risqué or in bad taste (in one game, you have to pelt a dog with footballs before it attacks you and draws blood). There are gambling games, but kids only use virtual money to play. There is no chat function but the site is full of links that can go just about anywhere.
Families can talk about why their kids want to go to sites like these. Does "cartoon" violence make less of an impression than more realistic media like videos or photos? Do blood and guts make games more fun to play? What message does it send when hurting people or animals scores points in a game? Families can also watch our video about online gaming.

With hundreds of free games to play online or download, ARMORGAMES.COM is the ultimate procrastination station. There are games of every stripe: action, adventure, dress-up, sports, puzzles, and even versions of arcade classics like Pac-Man and Frogger. There's also blackjack, poker, and slots, but only virtual money plays on this site. In a rush? Try Four Second Firestorm, Four Second Frenzy, or Four Second Fury. The trio contains dozens of "microgames" lasting four seconds each, requiring quick thinking and quick fingers. And, despite the impolite title, The Idiot Test -- a challenging and funny series of brainteasers -- is a blast.
For other games, check out CrazyMonkeyGames.com. Older teens might also like Pogo.com.
