What parents need to know

Parents need to know that other than some spooky music, there's nothing here to scare kids of any age. Being a Ben & Jerry's site, it does have logos for the company on every page and a link to their online store.

  • Not applicable.
  • The Ben & Jerry's logo is displayed throughout the site. Some of the downloadable wallpaper promos Ben & Jerry's. There's a link to the shopping portion of the larger Web site.

What's it about?

For those who scream for ice cream and pumpkins, visit BEN & JERRY'S HALLOWEEN FUN STUFF, the kid-friendly section of the ice cream kings' site. Simple yet fun games (some with test-run instructions), printable decorations, and an interactive cartoon haunted house, science lab, and library can be found, along with other Halloween-related links.

Is it any good?

The games aren't sock knockers, but the cartoon images are fun. Find a clever treat in the Flavor Graveyard, where all of B & J's discontinued flavors are artfully eulogized. The printable Halloween coloring pages (think cute ghouls holding ice cream cones) are appropriate for all ages. The history area is also worth a peek...or a boo.

What families can talk about

Families can talk about how logos and brand names influence us. You'll probably be craving some Chunky Monkey a few clicks into a site that was supposedly about Halloween. How can the power of suggestion and familiar images influence your eating and buying habits? When is it appropriate to mix fun cartoons and games and not-so-good-for-you food? When is it not OK?
