Why We Rated This on for Ages 12 and Up

The good stuff

  • Educational value:

There's significant educational value to be found throughout the site as it offers world views from peers and can supplement school studies of other cultures.
  • Messages:

This culturally rich environment allows children throughout the world to experience imagery and words from other regions. The gallery of submissions provides valuable insight and perspective into how other children from other cultures see their own world and the world beyond. Parents should be cautioned that there are some subjects that may strike fear or concern in more sensitive children.

What to watch out for

  • Violence:

    Not an issue.
  • Sex:

Several videos focus on teen pregnancy and mothers who are unmarried, but there is nothing overtly sexual.
  • Language:

    Not an issue.
  • Consumerism:

There's no cost to use this educationally enriching non-profit site, and it's completely ad-free. It is, however, created in partnership through the stock photography giant Getty Images and also receives funding and support through various foundations as well as corporations such as Adobe, Microsoft, and Canon. These partners are not overtly flaunted or promoted but can be located with minimal effort on the Web site's "partners" page.

  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Not an issue.
