Parents need to know that this educational site includes articles about world cultures past and present. The information is fine, but the navigation is confusing, so kids might get frustrated.
What's it about?
CULTURES.COM is a collection of articles about ancient and living cultures. Visitors can learn about people and places like the Hopi Indians of Arizona, the Angkor Wat temple in Cambodia, and the ancient African kingdom of Timbuktu. The site is mostly text-based with accompanying photos, but there's also an animation that tells the story of the Amistad slave ship rebellion. There are plenty of links to resources about music, environment, history, and other facets of cultures.
Is it any good?
Although the information on Cultures.com is interesting -- and has an excellent purpose -- the presentation is rather dull, and the organization is confusing. There's no site-wide navigation, so users can easily get "stuck" in a section. Also, there's not much to do besides read; sister site Mythweb.com is more interactive and more appealing. Cultures.com seems like it's stuck in the 1990s, save for the sophisticated and compelling Amistad animation.
