The good stuff

  • Educational value:

    The educational benefit for tech-savvy kids is great. How To Make Your Own Web Show section covers lighting, audio and other video-making tips.

  • User-created content:

    The best part of this site are the funny user-created videos -- all pre-approved by the site's editors. Fans of the show get instruction on how to make videos, and must send in signed releases for themselves and friends authorizing their appearance on the site. (This is a great feature because it eliminates any unintended element of surprise when the video shows up on the site.)

  • Messages:

    The overall message encourages kids to be creative by making their own videos. It also encourages responsibility and good digital citizenship by requiring kids to get signed releases for all the people who appear in the videos.
 

What to watch out for

  • Violence:

    Not an issue.

  • Sex:

    Mild flirting. iKissed Him First game requires dragging blue or pink kisses to Shane's face. Hey, What Am I Licking segment has character blindfolded and must identify object by licking only. One mention of "pointy boobs."

  • Language:

    Content rating scale reads "suckish" vs. "rocks."

  • Consumerism:

    Ads gone wild: animated, flashing and talking! But the site warns you when you are about to enter a section with ads. The types of ads include credit cards, fake contests, sugar cereals.

  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Not an issue.
