What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this site offers a huge range of mostly positive cartoons for kids preschool age to 8+. The site allows unrestricted use and access to all areas. While all content on the site is considered appropriate for children under the age of 13, parents should watch alongside younger children.

  • KidMango is a part of MyFamilyTV, a larger initiative to provide positive programming for children.
  • Offerings are categorized by age-appropriateness on the site. Some of the 8+ offerings have some violence and iffy content (aliens, vampires, scary sharks, etc. - but all in cartoon form).
  • Not applicable.
  • Not applicable.
  • The site was in beta when reviewed, but it appears that users will be offered commercial opportunities related to the content they are watching in the accompanying links section.
  • There is no drinking, drugs or smoking in KidMango content.
  • The site is designed to NOT put children into a position where their personal privacy could in any way be compromised. A parent email is needed to open a KidMango account, but otherwise the content is pretty readily available to whoever wants to access it. Kids do leave a viewing history which can be reviewed by parents.

Is it any good?

The KidMango Web site is part of MyFamilyTV, a programming initiative aimed at buying and consolidating blocks of children's entertainment that parents can feel safe having their kids watch. Shows range from goofy, fun kids' entertainment to highly educational fare; some are brand new and some are very, very old (like Dennis the Menace) The content is divided into recommended ages, and kids and parents can decide which content is acceptable for their own tastes. At present, this is it for the site -- there is no interaction, no chat, no user-generated content. But as a good, clean, nice-looking place for kids to watch videos of their favorite shows, KidMango achieves its goal.

What families can talk about

  • What is "good" entertainment and what isn't? Many of the shows here have strong, positive messages -- which stand in stark contrast to those which are purely entertainment driven.

  • Families can also talk about setting limits on computer time. Because of the vast amount of content here, and the unrestricted nature of the site, it can be very easy to spend a lot of time here.

Great site -- great content
Lots of good stuff - from fun cartoons to educational live-action mini-movies. The biggest downside at the moment are the commercials (which, compared to other sites, are actually pretty minimal) and the tough-to-navigate controls. But, it's still in beta, so I'm sure that will improve! Overall, a very fun and VERY safe site, with lots of family-friendly content. If your child is old enough for PBS Kids, s/he's old enough for KidMango!
