Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that this site is the online presence of Kiki magazine for tweens. The site offers a preview of what's in the magazine, and true to the mission of delivering a publication that lacked the trappings of many tween/teen fashion magazines -- gossip, sensuality, boyfriends, etc. -- is completely safe for tweens. Some parents (especially parents of tomboys) might find some of the content a bit old-fashioned; for example, the Kiki Care section promises to teach girls how to put on pantyhose and iron a dress.

What's it about?

KIKIMAG.COM provides a peek inside a new magazine that could be the Project Runway for the Hannah Montana set. From the Studio discusses fabric, designers, and art schools; Art Bin offers drawing and sewing tips; World Beat tours the fashion capitals of the world. The idea is to introduce tweens to the world of fashion through a lens of creativity and artistry.

Is it any good?

The magazine looks to be a lot of fun for tweens -- and something that parents can get behind. Unfortunately, is just a teaser for what's in the magazine, and readers won't actually learn anything on the site itself.

Families can talk about...

  • Families can talk about how tweens make fashion decisions. Do they choose clothes that express their personal style? Or ones that help them fit in or impress their peers? Kids, whose personal style do you admire, and why?
