MySpace Karaoke has treasures -- and some trash.

Why We Rated This on for Ages 14 and Up

The good stuff

  • Educational value:

    Not an issue.

What to watch out for

  • Messages:

Given the various genres and songs available, the lyrics range from completely clean to misogynistic and vulgar depending on what users choose to view –- and what the singers choose to say.
  • Violence:

    Some songs boast about violence.
  • Sex:

It's not difficult to find sexualized images and photos, and there are plenty of lyrics that contain explicit sexual references.
  • Language:

Plenty of the songs contain profanity. And even though the scrolling karaoke lyrics don't include the printed word itself, they're easily heard and easily discernible.

  • Consumerism:

Aside from the prevalent ads, the site has many natural music tie-ins and leverages them to the hilt. There is a steady stream of recording artists who promote their new releases via karaoke contests. Brand names are occasionally mentioned in song lyrics.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

Some songs celebrate drug and/or alcohol use. Also, some "performers" replace existing lyrics with their own, occasionally referencing drug and/or alcohol use.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about why they think people need to participate in online karaoke? Is it because they truly believe they're talented? Or simply because they have a need to be seen and heard? And why is the public so fascinated with seeing others perform -- especially when the performances aren't necessarily very good? Also important is a discussion about what the performers get out of the feedback -- positive or negative -- they receive.

    Melrose Jewelers

I purchased four Rolex watches from Melrose Jewelers at once, after a friend recommended them to me. I was buying gifts for my three daughters and my husband, and wanted to make sure that they each got something unique. They even had them engraved for me because it was a special occasion. And when my oldest daughter’s watch wasn’t exactly what she wanted, they offered to exchange it for us. After that experience, I suggested them to another friend of mine who was looking for a Men’s rolex President. If you are looking for a preowned Rolex, there is really no where else you should even look.
