Parents need to know that Web sites for preschoolers requires parental involvement. This site is part of the PBS Kids Raising Readers program and is designed to develop preschool reading skills. Funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, it also provides resources to parents and teachers.
The
research-based programs at READYTOLEARNREADING.ORG guide children through different literacy-building levels, including rhyming, letter identification,
alliteration, phonics, letter sequencing, phonemic awareness, and
reading/vocabulary. Through an island carnival, emerging readers are engaged in different games with familiar characters from Sesame Street, Word World, and Super Why! Users can earn tickets as they navigate their way through the games and choose prizes as they go.
It's hard to find an educational website for children that's safe, free, and entertaining, but ReadyToLearnReading.org is something both parents and children will appreciate. With the help of familiar characters, kids can independently explore new adventures all while increasing literacy development. Your children will have fun, and won't even realize it's good for them.

Families can talk about whether the Internet is a good place to learn to read. When is it OK for young children to be on the Internet? Should all ages have parental supervision, even on educational websites? Should preschool age children even have access to the Internet?
