The good stuff

  • Educational value:

    Not an issue.
  • Messages:

    Not an issue.

What to watch out for

  • Violence:

In the game's storyline there is an explosion in town. A beloved character is missing and the story says his "remains were never found." The main premise of the game is that the Funkeys must regain control of this make-believe world back from the evil Master Lox and his henchmen.
  • Sex:

    Not an issue.
  • Language:

    Not an issue.
  • Consumerism:

This site is a commercial for (as well as an online user guide to) the U.B. Funkeys product line. Kids also have to buy a toy in order to play the game on this site. Yet another example of the popular trend of computer and online games in which kids collect or earn fake coins to "buy" items and decorate rooms, etc.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Not an issue.

What Parents Need to Know

About UBFunkeys

Parents need to know that kids have to buy a U.B. Funkeys Starter Kit (about $20) at a local retailer or online store to play the game on this site. There's a rather complex installation process before the Pokemon-looking Funkeys characters are ready to plug into the USB port of your PC (won't work on a Mac). Also, kids collect or earn fake coins to "buy" items and decorate rooms. Forums are coming soon.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about consumerism in virtual worlds. There are more than 40 collectible Funkeys, and the more you buy the more you can explore and play on the site. Does the site make you want to buy all the toys? Also, is earning coins incentive to play around?

    it's cute and funny

they are cute little criters with their own personalities. Each level has a different challenge. The only thing I don't like about this game is that you can't arrange your house the way you want it. You can only turn your items in two positions. oh! and you can't communicate with other Funkeys! What's up with that? It is a game for kids of all ages. Myself included(age 35). I like to compete with my son to see who gets the highest score and who gets the trophy first.
