If your child is under the age of 17 keep an eye on what they see, do and watch on youtube. because in youtube theres a bit of everything : bad language, fighting, drinking, smoking EVERYTHING!

Youtube should be a restricted site for anyone under the age of 18! They have users that swear a lot, people drinking and smoking, access to brainwashing documentaries like Zeitgeist: The greatest story ever sold, many users are atheist, and there are so many porn videos, anyone could view if they fake their age. Teenagers these days are so out of control.

Can't lump YouTube into One Category
It's too difficult to lump YouTube into one category. It is a video tool, with lots of choices. Sure, there are things my kids aren't allowed to watch there, but there are plenty of videos that have merit. I would not want to outright censor their usage, but be mindful about what they are choosing.

As a mother Youtube is blocked in our home except on MY computer. If my 11 year old wishes to view it she must come to me. There are many great things on Youtube but it isn't very well moderated and nearly anything goes but full out hard core porn and nudity. But the comments are just about a total free for all. So, if you don't care how many times your kids see the F word, then by all means let them go. If you don't care if they hear it, see videos that are offensive to many adults, violence, hatred etc. then let them go. While they will find the warm fuzzy cute videos (we love them) they will also find some horrific things....I have many times! and why would I allow my kids to watch it without my knowledge....NOT! Must weigh the entertainment factor with the negative... they can be entertained elsewhere without the trash. However as I said, I'm there often.....but I know what i'm looking for and don't go looking randomly.

YouTube is a great site for viewing, but with a 12-year old, I won't let him browse it without me sitting right next to him. My biggest concern is the swears that a significant number of the comments include. As far as the videos itself go, the quality varies a lot, but there are some absolute gems on YouTube (especially the singer/songwriters).

some videos may contain swearing or adult content. Some even contain violent acts. So I advise if the child is under 14, or even if they're 14-17, that it wouldn't hurt if a parent sat beside them to keep an eye on what they're watching.

Not as bad as you think
I am a youtube junkie. I know every kb of the website and I can tell you that it is much more appropriate then the bad rap it's gotten. Youtube has started filtering it's videos since the 2008 suing of Vicaom for multiple user copyrights. Now, the videos that say you have to be 18+ to watch, are bad and show clear cleavage, but no nudity. But if it has violence in the title, just don't watch it. Teens, tweens just be a lil careful
Here's the place you can find just about anything in visual format. Wanna know about math, how to do a plate count or catch up with your favorite tv shows, this is the place to be. There might be a time you wanna watch Hannah Montana but it comes out a diff stuff sooo that's a little annoying to me. I was able to watch Saw's gory scene (won't mention which) without having to sign up. So u see users can lie about the age appropriate of the video. I suggest that a parent or adult be present if a younger child wants to view a video, maybe sesame street or noddy (lol classic), u never know what pops up. For tweens and teens (which include me), just don't go around clicking, if it's odd just leave. Don't watch lolll.... common sense ehh

Brilliant, Just Be Careful
It is a brilliant site and it's free and legal. Almost anything can be found there - which is good and bad. But videos can be flagged so people under 18 can't view them. You can lie about your age but it's likely that the people it would offend, mainly under 10's won't understand it and leave it. If you don't want to end up on youtube don't let your friends video you. Simple :) Language can be a problem and sex references. So basically it is great for over 13's you understand that if they don't like it thet can simply switch the video off and understand how to flag videos that offend them. You don't usually get violent videos or sex one unless yo type that in specifically. So as long as your carefull youtube is a great site for over 13's and under but only if their parents know what they're watching and if it's bad thay can simply say don't use youtube. :)

YouTube is a very popular website that many people use and much of it is appropriate but unfourtunately, alot of it is not, because it is user generated alot of them have bad language, some with sexual content and not all of them send out a positive message,but on the positive side there are many many appropriate videos of pets, music, and many more age appropriate stuff so I think it's okay for kids ages 10+

Youtube is a good site if your child is appropriat and mature. If you do not have mature kids or kids who look at innapropriat stuff for there age then no. All in all it can be good or bad not that educational but if you search up a video chances are you'll find it. It's very fun, and you don't always have to find bad videos, you can just watch the peoples who you subscribed to, in the comments of the videos there are sometimes cuss words in there, but i dont read them often! Perfect for anyone from 10 to anyone
The real problem is safety which is a problem with many websites, and some of the videos put onto youtube. Lots of teachers use it in our school to find video's.One of our topics are Ancient Greece and this is how they teach us. But there is a problem with the videos as their are many videos with inappropriate sexual behaviour and bad language. There is also a safety problem as there is a chance you can share personal information but as long as a parent make sure you don't you are perfectly safe. It relays on the parents to check every 10 minutes at what their doing and check the information they have put on. I say it's safe as long as you check. Parents it's down to you. Is this a great educational site with maybe a few chinks in the system or is it a horrible site which your child can learn bad habits on? It's you, your child it beneath you thumbs but also think, what will make your child happy? Talk through with them, decide some rules. Still keep checking until you think their ready to go on by themself and do what they want. Make sure your child does not make an account until they are past 15 though as it could be danagerous otherwise. You could try you tube yourself and decide.

there are so many things your kids can find on youtube that are bad or inapropriet and there are many things they can find that is completly apropriet for there agelike dora the explore. here are examples of things they can find with one click that are completly inapropreat: desterbing videos off the holocaust, brintney spears music videos, people dancing around in there birthday suit, prisoner from jail fighting ECT. but here are some things they can find that are safe: dora the explorer, hannah montanah, webkinz, ECT. So think about it is this a site you want your kids on?????????? your answer is probably a mix right????????????????????? It all depends. I watched a video with no inappropiate content and when i was watching lego batman some one said the b-word. But the shows on youtube have a great rating system: L=mild langauge, L+=frequent language, V=mildly violent or disburbing and so on.

Usually kids use this site to look up random videos of "lego Batman" or "evil chipmunk", while other, older kids might look up inappropriate things. It all depends how this website is used. There is plenty of swearing in a lot of these videos. Some are very funny though! Once again, depends on what you look up. If your child has a YouTube account, I would recommend monitoring their uploads...
