Presentation Tips
This workshop presentation is designed to help you facilitate a parent education event with parents of middle or high school students. It addresses:
- What's new about today's media landscape?
- What opportunities and challenges does this present to kids?
- What can parents do to raise kids that use media safely and responsibly?
We recommend hosting a parent education night to kick off your media education program, and using this PowerPoint presentation to structure your event. The presentation comes complete with graphics and talking points to help guide the presenter.
The presentation should take about 30-45 minutes to go through, and you should leave at least 15 minutes at the end for conversation.
Download the PowerPoint (Be patient - it's a big file!)
Download just the talking points in a Word document
Make a few parent tip sheets available at your presentation so parents can continue to learn about these issues. We recommend:
Internet Safety for Elementary School Kids
Online Gaming and Virtual Worlds
Junk Food Advertising
Cyberbullying
Your presentation is also a great opportunity to hand out one of our Family Media Agreements.
We encourage you to make this presentation your own! Take some time to go through the talking points and come up with some of your own examples or anecdotes to illustrate the points.
