The chief of staff reports directly to the founder and CEO and acts as Jim's "go-to advisor." This role requires a highly resourceful individual who can collaborate with and achieve actionable results through others; the ability to build strong and sustainable relationships; and the capability to interact on all levels of multiple organizations. The ideal candidate will handle complex situations and multiple responsibilities simultaneously, mixing long-term projects with the urgency of immediate demands. The chief of staff must handle confidential information and act as a liaison between Jim and his constituencies, both internally and externally, and must possess strong communication and social media skills.
Assists in planning administrative and operational activities for the CEO and other members of the executive leadership team. Organizes and prioritizes critical issues and required information for the executive team to facilitate efficient decision-making. Acts as a point of contact or gatekeeper between top management and other stakeholders. Provides oversight and guidance on projects of high importance. When appropriate, acts as an advisor to the CEO and helps manage organizational priorities.

TRAVEL: Must possess the occasional ability to travel for event support, as needed
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Represent the office of CEO both internally and externally to communicate priorities.
- Advise the assistants on meeting prioritization, systems, materials, and communication for the office of the CEO. Manage and track the CEO's daily and long-term priorities
- Manage the CEO's press and public affairs strategy in coordination with the communications team and others at Common Sense.
- Develop and manage the strategy for the CEO's travel and public appearances to maximize efficiency and exposure.
- Ensure that the CEO is well-prepared for all meetings and events.
- Effectively leverage the CEO's role and schedule for fundraising and revenue/resource
- Act on the authority of the CEO to help coordinate projects that span both Common Sense and other organizations, requiring cross-functional collaboration and resource allocation.
- Disseminate information and communicate ideas on behalf of the CEO to relevant colleagues.
- Respond on behalf of the CEO to issues that arise, both internally and externally.
- Coordinate responsibility for drafting the CEO's external communications with the relevant communications personnel.
- Work closely with the executive assistant and administrative assistant to the CEO to ensure the appropriate management of the CEO's calendar so all priorities are met and proactively planned for.
WHAT WE NEED TO SEE ON YOUR RÉSUMÉ:
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or equivalent. Graduate degree a major plus (e.g., law or business).
- Four to six years' related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience; experience as a high-level aide is a plus.
- Excellent decision-making capabilities based on analytical skills and critical thought processes.
- Ability to be creative and innovative in bringing solutions to problems.
- Solid communication skills, written and verbal.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment that requires great time-management skills, and the ability to prioritize assignments.
- A reputation for responsiveness, thoroughness, and accuracy.
- Experience working with confidential information requiring discretion and tact.
- Strong computer skills; MS Office Suite required.
