How do I apply for a job?

What is the process after an application is submitted?

Applications are collected in the jobs inbox – please note we cannot respond to every application.

  1. Our HR team reviews applications to identify qualified candidates.
  2. Qualified candidates are invited to do a telephone screening.
  3. The most qualified candidates will be invited to an in-person interview. Common Sense typically conducts 2 to 3 rounds of in-person interviews in the hiring process.
  4. References will be solicited from our final candidates. (Please note that some positions will require additional background checks.)
  5. A formal written job offer will be made to our top final candidate.

CFO

To support its rapid growth, and to develop the financial metrics required to measure and ensure success, Common Sense is seeking an extremely talented Chief Financial Officer to partner with the Senior Management team as it undertakes this exciting next phase.

Vice President, Foundation Partnerships

We are currently seeking a bright, energetic professional to help lead our Foundations team’s growth efforts. The successful candidate will have exceptionally strong written and oral communication skills and a proven track record of raising major grants from Foundations. Reporting to the Chief Education and Strategy Officer, the Vice President, Foundation Partnerships will ensure the creation and implementation of strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and expand a $15 million grant portfolio.

Director, Education Business Development 

Presently, we are seeking an experienced, talented and dynamic Director of Education Business Development to drive new business opportunities in the education space, forging partnerships with enterprise in order to broaden our distribution footprint in schools and generate substantial revenue for the organization. This position will report to the Vice President of Business Development, and be based in San Francisco. Some travel will be required.

Front End Engineer

We are currently seeking a talented, experienced Front-end Engineer to join a team of 8 Drupal developers, a QA engineer, product managers, and design staff to work on a rapidly expanding set of Drupal websites.  This position will be based in our San Francisco office. This is an opportunity to work on one of the nation’s major consumer sites that reaches over 70 million homes and tens of thousands of schools.

We are looking for an experienced social media director to be a key online voice of the organization and to lead the strategy, management, and measurement of our online engagement efforts.

Education Strategy & Development Manager

We are currently seeking a talented professional to help design and drive the next phase of our education growth strategy and development efforts.  The ideal candidate will have experience in strategy development, program design, and fundraising in the rapidly evolving arena of K-12 education.  Exceptionally strong written and oral communication and presentation skills are critical. 

Digital Campaign Coordinator/Manager

We are looking for a Digital Campaign Coordinator/Manager to develop the content for a robust digital communications campaign. S/he will also manage the communications schedule and ensure cross-departmental functionality. The position will work under the direction of the National Advocacy Director and the VP of Marketing for Common Sense.

UX Designer

Web Visual Designer

We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic and mid-level designer who can work autonomously as well as collaborate effectively with our design, UX, product and engineering teams.

Honors Policy Program Associate

Common Sense is seeking an Honors Policy Program Associate. This is a wonderful opportunity for a recent college graduate and talented team player to join a thriving group of professionals with a passion for what they do.  This role will require a resourceful self-starter loaded with initiative and enthusiasm and superior writing and computer skills, as well as the ability to work both collaboratively and independently. The successful candidate will be skilled at communicating with senior executives, government officials, and various other high-profile people in order to support the Vice President, Policy and the rest of the policy team.

Director of Finance and Administration

We are looking for a Director of Finance and Administration who is a CPA with deep nonprofit accounting experience and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in public accounting, preferably servicing a mix of for profit and nonprofit clients.

Director of Research

The Director of Research serves as a key member of Common Sense Media's research and academic team. Reporting to the Vice President of Research, the Director helps manage the organization's research and evaluation efforts in the research program as well as those connected to family/consumer and education programs.

Associate Product Manager

We are seeking a talented, enthusiastic and dedicated Associate Product Manger to help manage and create amazing user experiences for our websites and mobile apps. This position reports to the VP of Product and works closely with the engineering, design, and product teams.

Events & Administrative Coordinator

We seeking an Events and Administrative Coordinator for the Bay Area. Reporting to the Vice President for California Policy and the National Advocacy Director, the Events and Administrative Coordinator will assist with planning and hosting events and provide administrative support for the two principals in the San Francisco office. 

Policy Associate 

We are seeking a Policy Associate to contribute to the advancement of legislative efforts in California and throughout the nation. Reporting to the Vice President for California Policy, the Policy Associate will assist with the development, implementation, and communication of the organization’s advocacy agenda.
