How do I apply for a job?

All positions are posted on this website. Please click the job title to see full job description for that position. Please submit applications by sending your resume and cover letter to jobs@commonsense.org and putting the position you're applying for in the subject line.

What is the process after an application is submitted?

Applications are collected in the jobs inbox – please note we cannot respond to every application.

  1. Our HR team reviews applications to identify qualified candidates.
  2. Qualified candidates are invited to do a telephone screening.
  3. The most qualified candidates will be invited to an in-person interview. Common Sense typically conducts 2 to 3 rounds of in-person interviews in the hiring process.
  4. References will be solicited from our final candidates. (Please note that some positions will require additional background checks.)
  5. A formal written job offer will be made to our top final candidate.

Vice President, Business Development

We are seeking a highly experienced, entrepreneurial, and mission-driven Vice President of Business Development (VPBD) to lead our efforts in this area and to be a critical part of our executive team. The VPBD will drive new business opportunities that will broaden our distribution footprint and generate revenue for the organization, as well as optimize and extend our existing partnerships.

Vice President, Individual Giving

Common Sense is seeking a talented, experienced Vice President of Individual Giving with proven knowledge and experience in fundraising, and experience leading and inspiring teams.   The ideal candidate will be passionate about collaboratively creating and fostering a culture of philanthropy that helps achieve our revenue goals while attracting, growing and retaining our base of donor support. 

Director of Communications

We are seeking a Director of Communications to help manage the media relations operations for the organization and to work closely with the Vice President of Communications and Strategic Programs to implement the organizational communications plan.  This role will work closely with the 5-member communications team that is responsible for promoting the organization’s brand, programs and messages to key constituents, with a main focus on the news media. The Director will help develop and support both a proactive and reactive press strategy, with a primary responsibility for press/media related to our Common Sense Media consumer platform. This will include developing relationships and working closely with reporters, editors and producers to secure positive media coverage and external brand awareness of Common Sense Media and its mission.

Catalog Data Coordinator

Common Sense is currently seeking a motivated, pop culture-fluent Catalog Data Coordinator skilled at online research, spreadsheet management, and detail-oriented work to support our editorial, business development, and product teams in maintaining thorough, accurate metadata for our review library. 

Digital Acquisition Manager

We are seeking an experienced Digital Acquisition Manager to build a robust digital growth program (focused on email acquisition) for the organization that leverages our deep content resources and offerings to engage parents, educators, and advocates in our mission.  The Digital Acquisition Manager will design and execute a growth program to optimize existing acquisition strategies (newsletter, social media, content gating) and create new ones (personalized offerings, partner benefits). 

New York Regional Director

Common Sense Media is seeking a dynamic, results-driven person to lead its New York Office. The New York Regional Director is responsible for driving a comprehensive effort to build Common Sense Media’s presence, philanthropic base and strategic partnerships in the New York Metropolitan Area. The New York Regional Director is a frontline fundraiser who cultivates, solicits, and manages high profile relationships with local foundations, major donors, civic, business, and community partners. 

Director of Education Business Development

We are seeking an experienced, talented and dynamic Director of Education Business Development to drive new business opportunities in the education space, forging partnerships with enterprise in order to broaden our distribution footprint in schools and generate substantial revenue for the organization. The ideal candidate for this position will have deep experience in education-related business development, strategic and creative thinking skills, a collaborative work style and a strong track record of prospecting and closing new business.

Director of Finance and Administration/Controller

We are looking for a Director of Finance and Administration who is a CPA with deep nonprofit accounting experience and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in public accounting, preferably servicing a mix of for profit and nonprofit clients. 

Front-end Engineer

We are currently seeking a talented, experienced Front-end Engineer to join a team of eight Drupal developers, two QA engineers, UX designer, as well as product managers, Creative Director and design staff to work on a rapidly expanding set of Drupal websites. This is a once in a life-time opportunity to work on one of the nation’s major consumer sites that reaches over 70 million homes and tens of thousands of schools. Administrative & Events Coordinator

Common Sense is seeking an Administrative & Events Coordinator for the Bay Area. Reporting to the Vice President for California Policy and the National Advocacy Director, the Events and Administrative Coordinator will assist with planning and hosting events and provide administrative support for the two principals in the San Francisco office. 

Education Strategy & Development Manager

We are currently seeking a talented professional to join our team as we embark on this exciting next phase of our growth.  The ideal candidate will have experience in the rapidly evolving K-12 education sector where strategic design, program development and fundraising are part of their previous role.   Exceptionally strong written and oral communication and presentation skills are critical.

Education Program Manager, Mid-Atlantic/D.C. Metro Area

We are currently seeking a full-time position for a Mid-Atlantic/D.C. Metro Area Education Manager to develop and manage strategic outreach collaborations with state and county-wide educational organizations/associations, and key school districts in the Metro DC area (Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia). The primary objective of the Education Manager is to introduce Common Sense Education’s free resources to educators and help them learn how to best guide students (and their families) in harnessing the full potential of technology for learning. 

Project Coordinator, Education Content

We are currently seeking a talented, experienced, full-time Project Coordinator, Education Content, to join our dynamic education team. The Project Coordinator will support the Education Content Team, primarily focused on Common Sense Graphite, our teacher-facing platform where we rate and review educational technologies for learning potential and educational use. Video Editor/Motion Graphic Designer

We are seeking a creative Video Editor/Motion Graphics Designer to edit live action documentary style, how-to tip, screen capture, and explainer videos for Common Sense Media’s website , mobile app, YouTube channel and video-on-demand audiences.  Our ideal candidates will have 3 years of experience and are looking to enhance their skillset in a fun and fast-paced environment.
