Senior SEO/SEM Consultant

Common Sense Media ( is the leading non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to improving the impact of media and entertainment on kids and families. We are looking for a 25 hour/month Senior SEO Consultant to help us continue to keep out websites at the top of organic search results, help us implement tagging, suggest new initiatives to improve rankings, and keep us abreast of the latest developments in the field. You will be responsible for:

  • Delivering monthly reports around SEO, list and title and major page optimization in person at our offices
  • At this monthly meeting, also present your research or a focused report on a feature or other SEO initiative at each session per discussions
  • Work with our product and marketing teams to develop new pages and make sure our forthcoming content is properly optimized
  • Work with editorial team on content marketing strategies and
  • Help advise us across tagging implementation
  • Manage our Google Grant SEM campaign
  • Evaluate other similar offerings around SEO and advise us accordingly
  • Keep up with new developments in the field and come up with ways we can benefit from them
  • Advise on Google Analytics issues so we can properly assess the fruits of our work
  • Occasionally training editorial and other staff on best SEO practices
  • Be available to consult on issues as they come up in marketing and product development


You will work with the product and marketing departments and chair monthly meetings attended by members of both departments and staff from editorial and education as well. We have benefited from two excellent SEO consultants over the past 6 years and look forward to working with someone intellectually engaged in the field who has a passion for helping make our quality editorial information available to parents and educators. Previous consultants spent approximately 20 hours on SEO and 5 hours per month, give or take, managing the existing SEM campaign.




  • 5+ years of SEO work within a firm or consulting to for- or non-profits in the media, entertainment and or educational space

  • 5 or more years experience with Google Analytics including the new Universal Analytics. Experience with Google Tag Manager helpful.

  • 5 or more years of SEM campaign management, preferably with Google grant or other non-profit experience (not essential)

  • Google Webmaster tools experience

  • Ability to demonstrate serious SEO/SEM impact with previous clients

  • Experience working long-term with clients who content and business you understand deeply


Nice to Have:

  • Knowledge of the Drupal platform or knowledge of engineering issues around SEO

  • Social Media Marketing experience and working with in-house staff to develop Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest, Twitter campaigns and strategy

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and drive your and others' projects to completion

  • Experience in media review sectors (movies, TV, apps, games, books) and or Education sector
