What is the process after an application is submitted?

Please note we cannot respond to every application.

  1. Our HR team reviews applications to identify qualified candidates.
  2. Qualified candidates are invited to do a telephone screening.
  3. The most qualified candidates will be invited to an in-person interview. Common Sense typically conducts 2 to 3 rounds of in-person interviews in the hiring process.
  4. References will be solicited from our final candidates. (Please note that some positions will require additional background checks.)
  5. A formal written job offer will be made to our top final candidate.

Arizona Director - Phoenix, AZ

The Common Sense Arizona director is responsible for driving a strategic effort to build Common Sense Media's presence, strategic partnerships, and philanthropic base in Phoenix and throughout Arizona. The Arizona director is a frontline ambassador who cultivates, solicits, and manages high-profile relationships with civic, business, and community leaders as well as with local foundations and major donors. S/he supports Common Sense local education, business, and media partnerships by providing strategic input and helping to identify and structure partnerships in the region.

Arizona Education Manager- Phoenix, AZ. 

The Arizona education manager is a frontline ambassador for Common Sense's education programs and is responsible for developing and executing a strategy to increase adoption and use of these programs in Phoenix and throughout the state of Arizona. A primary focus of this work is establishing and managing partnerships with local school districts and community organizations as well as regional educational associations/centers. Efforts include introducing schools and groups to our resources, facilitating professional development/training sessions, and supporting partners in implementing our resources and engaging parent/caregiver communities in understanding the role media and technology play in children's lives. The Arizona education manager also will pilot new education content and resources as well as evaluate the impact of programming.

Business Development Manager- San Francisco, CA. 

We are seeking a business development manager to work closely with the business development team and collaborate across the organization to support a broad range of efforts focused on securing new licensed content partnerships spanning the consumer and education space. The primary functions of this role are: support of new business prospecting and pipeline management; analysis/research of industry trends; and support of proposal development and negotiations of new and renewed partner agreements. This role is based in San Francisco and will report to the director of business development. Some travel may be required.

Digital Engagement and Advocacy Manager - San Francisco, CA.

We are seeking a digital engagement and advocacy manager to help determine the strategy for and lead the tactical execution of building the Common Sense member base across all digital platforms. This person will pay particular attention to converting new members via our web properties and improving the engagement of existing members via email. This person will also play a critical role in developing search engine marketing and search engine optimization tactics, improving member acquisition through social media, and exploring acquisition through other digital channels as the situation dictates.

Educator Community Manager- San Francisco, CA. 

Common Sense is looking for a community manager to engage our community of K–12 educators around our digital literacy resources for schools. This is a four-month-long, 20-hour-per-week contract position reporting to the senior manager of education marketing.

Full Stack Engineer- San Francisco, CA. 

We are seeking an experienced full-stack engineer to join a team of developers, QA engineers, product managers, and UX designers who work closely with UI designers led by a creative director. This role will help build and maintain all things client-facing and will help translate our organization and customer needs into functionally seamless, and appealing, interactive applications. Creating a great user experience is a focal point of this role, and the ideal candidate is curious about new digital technologies and stays abreast of coding best practices, but there are also likely to be back-end tasks and problems to solve. This role will collaborate with a top-notch team of developers on a feature-rich, responsive site and help build personalized and social site experiences to help connect members with each other and the rest of the world.

Head of Communications- San Francisco, CA. 

Reporting to the vice president of External Affairs, the Head of Communications will develop and lead a high-profile, high-volume press operation for Common Sense, directly managing activities that promote, enhance, and protect the organization's brand, programs, reputation, and impact.

Motion Designer & Editor- San Francisco, CA. 

We are seeking a creative motion designer and editor to help create explainer and tip videos for the Common Sense Media and Common Sense Education websites, products for video-on-demand audiences and other partners, and videos for YouTube and other social channels. With the help of the Common Sense Latino team, we also translate many of our videos into Spanish for our growing Latino audience on all of our channels.

Staff Accountant- San Francisco, CA. 

We are seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to join our Finance Team to help us scale smoothly and efficiently. In this role you’ll work alongside our experienced Controller and other members of the Finance and Administrative Teams. You’ll also be a member of an organization where we value transparency, are passionate about what we do, and take care in our interactions with colleagues and customers.

Tech Policy Director - San Francisco, CA. 

We are seeking a Tech Policy Director to develop a tech advocacy agenda that prioritizes kids' best interests, covering privacy and security, product design, AI, voice, and more. This person will manage Kids Action tech legislative advocacy efforts in California and nationwide to protect and empower kids and families in the digital age. 

Visual Designer/UI Designer- San Francisco, CA. 

We are seeking an experienced Visual Designer/UI Designer  to join our team. This person will be experienced in visual designs, web/interaction design, and possess top-notch communication, project-management, and presentation skills. This position will report to the Creative Director, and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
