Brooks comes to Common Sense from California Governor Jerry Brown's administration, where he served as deputy policy director and legal counsel for the California State Board of Education. Previously, he worked for 10 years with the ACLU of California and was the statewide director of education advocacy. He graduated from Stanford University and Yale Law School and was born and raised in Santa Cruz, California.
Brooks and his wife, an education researcher, have two children. He spends his spare time with his family, coaching, and playing volleyball back home on the beach whenever possible.
