What parents need to know

Ease of play

The game is very simple to play, starting with a single letter and then gradually adding more letters which then start to move more quickly. Other game modes offer tips the first time you encounter variations. However, for children who can't yet read, some further explanation may be needed.

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that Alphabetic is a challenging letter-search game for kids and adults. Players race to find the letters from A to Z among the colorful letters as they spin and weave across the screen. Adjustable difficulty levels and achievements give the game plenty of replayability and allows for customization for all ages. Parents may want to avoid OpenFeint for privacy reasons, but otherwise it's an app that kids can pick up and learn on their own.

Is it any good?

ALPHABETIC is not a run-of-the-mill ABC educational app. Aside from the standard game, there are also challenges such as finding the letters in reverse order or finding each letter twice, so there's plenty to keep the player occupied. Young children will need some direction while playing, but incorrect taps will display the current letter so they'll know what to look for. The graphics are clean and simple, but not crude, and the subtle sound effects are just right -- a little bit of feedback without being distracting. An excellent way to learn and play with ABCs.
