Did we miss something on diversity?
Research shows a connection between kids' healthy self-esteem and positive portrayals in media. That's why we've added a new "Diverse Representations" section to our reviews that will be rolling out on an ongoing basis. You can help us help kids by suggesting a diversity update.

A Lot or a Little?
The parents' guide to what's in this app.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Brain Tuner Pro is mostly about training kids to focus, using a quick series of math equations and answers that kids must deem ‘Right’ or ‘Wrong’ by clicking a button. In order to be successful, kids will need to know their addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts, and sometimes be ready to do addition and subtraction with regrouping very quickly. This is a mainstream app but should be accessible to anyone who can access a touch screen. It wouldn't be appropriate for kids who don't have a good handle on their math facts, who are blind, or who need to access technology with a single switch. However, kids with attention deficits or who are distractible could benefit from ‘warming up’ with this app as it requires focus to be successful.

What’s It About?
Kids see equations with answers. They have to click the ‘Right’ or ‘Wrong’ button quickly. Pressing ‘Start Game’ lets kids select from three modes of play. In Classic Mode, there is a timer and kids are encouraged to beat their previous times. This might be stressful for some kids. In the less-intimidating Infinite Mode, there is no timer. Multiplayer Mode requires an account in the Apple Game Center and allows kids to play against others online. If they answer incorrectly, play stops but they can repeat the level. In ‘Relax’ mode, there are no scores; kids can play through with unlimited time -- they'll see if they make errors but play does not stop. Kids earn stars for each level of play.
Is It Any Good?
BRAIN TUNER PRO is a quick and intense way to practice math facts either individually or with others. It uses math equations and simple, speedy responses to quickly engage kids. The levels are easy enough that kids who really know their math facts can be successful at the easiest levels, but still feel challenged as they progress. Kids who might feel stressed under a time limit can opt to play in the Infinite Mode which has no time limit and is more forgiving. Kids might enjoy challenging each other-or their parents-to play together.
Brain Tuner Pro engrosses kids and challenges them to improve their scores. The short duration of play at each level makes them eager to try again. Although it doesn't teach math outright, it's a good way to apply math facts and an especially good way for kids to focus their attention to a very specific task.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about healthy competition. Parents can challenge their kids to Brain Tuner Pro playoffs using separate devices or work together to first play then try to beat their score from previous games.
Parents can help kids transfer their mental math skills, asking them to mentally add up the cost of things while picking things up at a convenience store and see if they are correct.
