Educational Value

Disney Fairies Fashion Boutique wasn't created with educational intent, and we don't recommend it for learning.

Ease of Play

It's very easy to follow the step-by-step process of clothes making. A tutorial walks kids through the process the first time. Kids must be able to read the orders to know what to make; for example, "Headpiece, Black." Players can look at the orders as they make the clothes. One player can work on a maximum of five orders at once.

Violence & Scariness
Sexy Stuff
Language
Consumerism

There are in-app purchases for "pixie diamonds," "pixie dust," and "materials," all of which can be earned through patient gameplay. Prices for in-app purchases range from $.99 to $49.99. The app warns kids before they make a purchase: "Buying Pixie Diamonds costs real money and will charge your iTunes account." In addition, the settings page contains links to an ad for Pixie Hollow and to more Disney apps at the App Store.

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Disney Fairies Fashion Boutique extends the Pixie Hollow website theme into a fun fashion app. Kids pretend to be boutique owners taking orders from fairy customers for custom-made pieces of clothing and accessories. The app makes fashion creation easy for kids with the process from customer order to finished garment very organized and limited. As with other simulation games, in-app purchases can speed things up. The wait times can range from less than a minute to more than an hour, which might tempt kids to spend real money.

What's it about?

Kids create an avatar for their shop owner or download a fairy from their Pixie Hollow website account. A step-by-step tutorial walks them through the clothing design process. Kids get more customers and design choices once they meet certain goals, such as training helpers. After kids design an outfit, it takes some time for the app to create it (from 30 seconds to more than an hour). Kids can speed up the process by paying a diamond, which they get through gameplay or with in-app purchase. Kids can also upgrade or decorate their store.

Is it any good?

For fashion, fairy, and Pixie Hollow fans, DISNEY FAIRIES FASHION BOUTIQUE will delight with its beautiful boutique and many options for activities and fashion creation. Any frustration in this game only exists in the amount of time it takes to process the orders once kids create the outfits. It's unfortunate that the amount of time it takes to complete orders is tied to paying diamonds, which are earned through patient gameplay or purchased with real money via in-app purchases. Otherwise, this game is filled with fairy dust fun and fashion creativity.
