Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that Draw and Tell joins Monsters Vs. Superheroes Comic Book Maker and Princess Fairy Tale Maker as one of a few apps from Duck Duck Moose that encourage storytelling. While the other two have obvious themes, Draw and Tell keeps it simple. Kids choose from a variety of different backgrounds, colors, characters, objects, and even stencils to create their drawings. Once they are ready, they can record a story or whatever they want while moving around the characters. There are also many coloring templates for those who just want to color.

What's it about?

In DRAW AND TELL – BY DUCK DUCK MOOSE, kids choose from different backgrounds, characters, colors, and stencils to create artwork and stories. Kids can edit the orientation and size of the stencils and can write or draw directly onto a scene with a variety of utensils. When done designing and setting up the scene, kids can record a story and other sounds. While recording, kids can drag the characters around on the screen to illustrate plot points. Kids can also color ready-made templates and save their creations for sharing and future use.

Is it any good?

Like with other apps by Duck Duck Moose, Draw and Tell is an attractive and engaging app for kids. While there may not be much in the way of instruction, feedback, or prompts to guide the storytelling, it is very kid friendly and intuitive to use. It leaves the creating to the kids – and there's plenty to be had with the variety of characters, objects, scenes, and more. Some kids may need more guidance than others in terms of coming up with story ideas, especially because Draw and Tell doesn't have a specific theme like superheroes or princesses. And for kids who are more interested in making art than in storytelling, they can still create their own drawings or use the coloring templates. Draw and Tell gives kids the option to be story makers or just to simply color for fun.

Families can talk about...

  • Guide your kids as they create the story by asking questions about plot elements and characters.

  • Read and share your kids' finished products and give them encouraging feedback for future stories.
