Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that Educreations Interactive Whiteboard is an app designed mainly for teachers to present lessons, but teens can also use it to create presentations or study. Teens and adults can create slide-show-style lessons or presentations using typed or handwritten text, photos or graphics, and voice recordings. In addition to seeing their presentations on the iPad, users can view their creations in any Web browser. Creations can be shared via email, Twitter, Facebook, blogs, and websites, including the Educreations website. Users are prompted to register with the Educreations site by providing their first and last name, an email address, and a password; they can also register via Google or Facebook. Users with premium subscriptions can download presentations as videos and share them at will. For more information about the types of information collected and shared, read the app's privacy policy.

What's it about?

EDUCREATIONS INTERACTIVE WHITEBOARD lets users begin creating a whiteboard-style slide by adding images from the choices in the drop-down menu or by writing (choose a color and finger-write or type using the on-screen keypad). Creators can move around and resize images and text, as well as draw directly on the images. There is no limit to the number of slides in a presentation. There is also an option to record audio over the slides. Users can save, categorize by subject, and share their presentations. Free users can save one draft presentation at a time, and paid users can have unlimited drafts in progress. Subscription packages offer more storage, sharing, and download options; check the developer's website for the range of options to figure out which one best fits your needs.

QUALITY

This versatile tool makes it easy to create a multipage presentation or lesson. Photos can be resized and moved around the pages with ease, and the colors for writing or marking the images are fun and help highlight points on the board. Recording a voice-over is as simple as a tap, and the audio plays back clearly. The app also makes it incredibly easy to categorize, save, and share creations publicly or privately. The biggest drawback is that, while you can edit your video and trim out mistakes, it's still critical to carefully plan since editing after is more cumbersome than getting it right the first time. Being able to piece together shorter clips would make it easier for kids who struggle with presenting.

Worst piece of software that I have ever encountered

I suggest that teachers should stop forcing students to use this piece of software. Its user interface is horrible and wastes a lot of time for kids. In my daughter's case, she could not easily upload her draft after hours of work. After she eventually figured out how to upload, she were only able to upload this first page, and guess what - the rest of the pages were all lost!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE as a software, especially for your kids. This is not an emotional review, but an honest feedback for a very bad app.
