Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Faces iMake ABC is an educational app designed specifically for preschoolers. The app exposes kids to letters of the alphabet and objects that begin with each letter as they put together artistic puzzles based on artwork by renowned artist Hanoch Piven.
What's it about?
Kids choose a letter from the alphabet, shown at the bottom of the screen, and then see and hear the letter on screen. They tap the letter again to make an object appear that begins with that letter -- like a robot for R. Then, "uh-oh," the object breaks apart into pieces that are actually everyday objects, like buttons or fruit, and kids have to reassemble the picture.
Is it any good?
FACES I MAKE - ABC is easy for kids to navigate, with the directions and gentle encouragement voiced by artist Hanoch Piven. "Hello, are you still there?" he asks after delayed responses. It would be nice to have the option of lowercase letters, but the focus is mostly on the art. Some items are placed on top of others partially, making some puzzles trickier than others, but the developers placed easier puzzles at the beginning of the alphabet so that the challenge slowly builds.
