A lot or a little?

The parents' guide to what's in this app.

Ease of Play

The game is a basic side-scroller and is fairly easy to control. Some levels are fairly challenging, however.

Violence

You'll beat characters with weapons including a bat and bone, shoot them with a rifle, or feed them ipecac to induce vomiting. Characters that are beaten are shown with black eyes and cartoon-like damage indicators.

Sex

The character Lois is shown in sultry outfits in the background of some levels, and some of the clips from the show are filled with innuendo.

Language

Plenty of objectionable words and phrases, including "bitch," "hell," "damn it," "you suck," and more. Sometimes the words are spoken aloud. Other times they must be read.

Consumerism

The app is solely meant as a promotional vehicle for the Fox comedy. Additionally, the main menu links to additional games from the network and the game's developer.

Drinking, Drugs & Smoking

In clips, Brian the dog is sometimes shown holding a cocktail.

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Family Guy Time Warped is an arcade platform game based on the popular television series. The app is filled with clips from the series, and continues many of the less-than-family-friendly themes that make the show a success. Stewie, the baby and co-star of this game, for instance, is a foul-mouthed, violent tyke who shows no respect for his parents. The game is full of slapstick violence, harsh language, and gross humor. An HD version is also available for the iPad.

Is it any good?

Devoted fans of the show may enjoy FAMILY GUY TIME WARPED, but casual watchers aren't likely to have as much fun. The game is a mediocre platform jumper without a lot of diversity. While you pummel enemies and jump from heights, the pacing is slow and the game feels sluggish. Its best moments come from watching short clips from the show -- but there's no reason to suffer through a so-so game to watch those when the program is in constant reruns on cable.
