Old-school 2-D adventure with great, smooth controls.
A Lot or a Little?
What you will—and won't—find in this app.
Ease of Play
The controls are very smooth and easy to use, and while the difficulty does ramp up as the game progresses, it doesn't do so too rapidly.
Violence & Scariness
Hoggy can "die" if he touches an enemy or a trap. When this happens he turns from a purple sphere into a purple splotch, sort of like a grape being squashed.

Sex, Romance & Nudity
The premise of the game is that "moon men" have kidnapped Hoggy's girlfriend and he must complete the levels to save her.

Products & Purchases
You can purchase "Hoggy's Lost Levels" for $.99 from within the app. There are plenty of levels to keep you happy in this main version, though.
Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Hoggy is a 2-D side-scrolling adventure game in the tradition and style of the old Super Mario Brothers games from the 1980s. There is a lot of strategy involved, and kids will see some very mild cartoony violence along the way. While enemies can hurt Hoggy, the purple blob himself has no attack.

Is It Any Good?
One thing HOGGY has going for it is a wonderful nostalgia factor. It truly feels like something that would have appeared on the old Super Nintendo game system 20 years ago (Hoggy even sort of resembles '80s game hero Kirby) -- except that it also has fantastic tap-and-tilt controls that make playing on your mobile device a real delight. Any fans of retro-style video games should consider Hoggy a real treasure.
