Hollywood Hospital

Time management game with a more adult sense of humor.

What parents need to know

Ease of play

The game can get chaotic at times and hard to keep up with (although that is the point of a time-management game). Overall the challenge level is not too bad. You can repeat previously beaten levels in order to earn extra money and buy upgrades to help you on later levels.

There's farcical violence in some of the "medical procedure" mini-games. You tap the snakes on Medusa's head to snip them off, leaving meaty stumps. You pump Braveheart's head with an airpump until it explodes (no blood or gore). A demon-posessed woman based on The Exorcist needs to be slapped repeatedly in the face to bring her back to normal.

The nurses are depicted with cartoonishly voluptuous bodies.

Drinking, drugs, & smoking

One mini-game includes sorting pills into a day-by-day pill holder, but we can assume these are prescription medications.

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that Hollywood Hospital is a time-management game, in the vein of Diner Dash, but with micro-games thrown into the mix. It has a somewhat adult sense of humor, with jokes about paparazzi and R-rated films that children may not have seen (The Exorcist, Braveheart, etc.). There are also jokes about Indiana Jones, Star Wars, and other films kids probably have seen, though. There is one mini-game that involves slapping a woman across the face because she's posessed by a demon. Our review is based on the iPhone app; the Android app may have some differences in functionality.

Is it any good?

HOLLYWOOD HOSPITAL works pretty well as a time management game, with the same kind of furiously-paced strategizing that you'll find in games like Diner Dash and Sally's Spa. The addition of micro-game "medical procedures" for each movie-themed patient adds an extra level of challenge, but those micro-games aren't really all that exciting on their own. Fans of time management games may like the change of pace introduced by Hollywood Hospital, but newcomers to the genre may want to stick with something more straightforward.
