Turn your photos into realistic, scary horror characters.

What parents need to know

Ease of play

Transforming pictures of friends, family, or yourself into hideous creatures is extremely simple.

There's no violence, per se, in the app, but the transformation of images into horror creatures is quite graphic -- featuring blood, pustules and fangs -- and is certainly capable of giving younger children nightmares.

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that iMut8r is a photo manipulation app that lets you transform pictures of friends, family, or yourself into hideous -- and often quite scary -- horror creatures. Users can choose from a number of themes including zombies, witches, vampires, werewolfs and demons. The result is a still picture that rivals some of the best movie makeup today (which makes sense, as the app was developed by Legacy Effects, one of Hollywood’s most respected special makeup effects companies). Accordingly, it's not an app for children. Even the iTunes store lists this as an app for ages 17-up.

Is it any good?

iMut8r is an app that blends the creative and creepy to great effect. It's certainly too intense for young kids, but for older teens and adults, there's great fun to be had in transforming yourself or a friend into a ghoul or werewolf. Figuring out the steps is easy, even without reading the tutorials and because the effects change your picture so dramatically, it's not critical to perfectly align your photo with the template. The price is right and the pictures certainly help older users get into the Halloween or horror spirit.
