A Lot or a Little?
What you will—and won't—find in this app.
Ease of Play
This app is very easy to use. After tapping "Let's Go!", kids can sit and watch and listen to a short (about five minutes) animated story with pauses for three interactive games. The games have verbal and visual cues but no explicit instructions, so young kids might need guidance at first. There is an icon on each page to see a table of contents, and an information menu explains all of the icons. Playing in French requires changing the language settings for the entire iPad, not just within the app.

Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Into the Snow: A Stella and Sam Adventure is a five-minute animated story with three games based on the popular Stella and Sam TV and book series. Two children go in search of their toboggan after a snowstorm. Along the way, they play three games with you: dragging sticks to form a picture on the snow, decorating a snowman, and swiping away snow to uncover lost toys. This video by the developer nicely demonstrates the app. While the app feels like an interactive book, there are no written words in the story, and young kids will need guidance during the games. The app can also play in French, but this requires changing your iPad's language settings. This app is included with three others in the Stella and Sam Story Pack available for iPad for $6.99. Pop-up notifications about the story pack and other apps can be disabled in the information menu.
Is It Any Good?
INTO THE SNOW: A STELLA AND SAM ADVENTURE is a delightful little app. Stella and Sam model curiosity, creativity, and a loving and happy sibling relationship. Their enthusiasm exploring the snow is contagious, the animations are great, and the French version sounds very natural. The games move at your own pace, and you can replay them with different items and pictures popping up. We're just left wanting more, especially for the price. If you're already a Stella and Sam devotee, the story pack is a better bargain.
Did we miss something on diversity?
