Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Jeopardy HD is much like watching the TV show, except instead of shouting answers at the TV screen, families and friends are the contestants. The most noticeable difference with this Jeopardy app is that it's a multiple-choice format. Players can create their own avatar and play against the computer or in a few multiplayer modes, including playing with others on the same Wi-Fi network, pass-and-play, a "party game" where players play using their own device but everyone looks onto the same iPad, and online via Game Center.
What's it about?
In Jeopardy! HD, kids answer trivia questions tied to dollar amounts as they would on the show. For each question, players have several seconds to choose to answer or to pass. If they choose to answer, they get three answers to choose from, and several seconds to choose. The timing adds a fun layer of pressure, especially for highly competitive players. Kids play through two rounds and then Final Jeopardy. High scores and achievements are recorded for bragging rights.
Is it any good?
Jeopardy HD is a pretty good rendition of the original show. While the multiple-choice format takes away some of the challenge, the rest of the game stays true to the show. Creating your own avatar is a nice touch, and writing your name instead of typing it gives it that authentic Jeopardy feel. The timed aspect adds a fun layer of pressure that highly competitive players will enjoy.
With a variety of trivia categories and thousands of clues to go through, the app offers plenty of play without in-app purchases, and truly avid players can buy more. All that's missing is an Alex Trebek avatar to read the clues!
