Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Juicy Math is a simple addition and subtraction practice app for kids just starting to learn math equations. The colorful fruit theme makes this app disarmingly sweet, not scary at all for newbies to addition and subtraction. The App Store description says the app is for "babies" to 10-year-olds, but it's really best for kids who already know the numbers 1 through 10 and are just starting basic addition and subtraction practice.
What's it about?
Kids solve simple equations using quantities of fruit and number tiles. For example, kids see a quantity of fruit in each of two boxes to represent 3+2. As they tap on each piece of fruit, the fruit lights up and a green number in the top right keeps tally. Kids count the lighted fruit to calculate the answer to the problem, and then drag a number tile to the answer blank. Number tiles automatically fill in the fruit boxes to show kids the completed equation such as 3+2=5. Parents can view a set of learning data on the statistics screen.
Is it any good?
The fruit-by-fruit counting animations in JUICY MATH give preschoolers a concrete way of understanding the relationship between counting items and addition and subtraction problems. There's nothing too complex here, but in a math app intended for younger learners, simple is often better. It would be nice if future updates included the addition of audio support to give kids an extra learning boost. Parents will appreciate the statistics tab that allows them to track their kid's progress. Juicy Math is a colorful, simple addition and subtraction practice app that can help kids develop basic math skills.
