What parents need to know
Parents need to know that Jump! A Game of Numbers is a game that uses skip counting to build early addition and multiplication skills. Since the game adjusts as the user plays, it works for kids age 5 to 10. Even adults may find the game fun as they try to quickly figure out patterns and count by twelves. The game has unlimited user accounts, so more than one child can use the same device to play. However, it is important that each kid set up and use her own account so the game adapts to each child’s specific skill level. You can also customize the number range and "count by" numbers to individualize the practice. Read the app's privacy policy to find out about the types of information collected and shared.

What's it about?
In JUMP! A GAME OF NUMBERS kids start with a story about a population of Snortles whose volcano home has popped. Now they need to be rescued from the sea where they're floating. Kids can save the Snortles by jumping from number to number in a certain pattern such as by twos or threes and drag numbers together to make the digit they need. All the while, Stompers and Fuses are waiting to shoot Snortles off the screen. Kids or parents can toggle the sounds, music, and time limits (in the form of Stompers and Fuses) on and off if kids need more time to think. You can also target the practice by choosing a starting number range and "count by" number. Between levels, kids can play with their Snortles and beach balls.
Is it any good?
Adaptive and fun, this math game helps kids practice skip counting and basic addition as they lead Snortles to safety. While playing the same game, kindergartners can build early addition skills, and upper elementary school-age kids will learn to multiply, especially with the ability to customize and target the practice. Although time is not a huge component, Fuses and Stompers add a sense of urgency, which encourages fluency. As kids get better, the game throws other challenges. Though the on-demand hints are helpful, it's possible kids will overuse them, which decreases the difficulty. Parents can monitor this and remind kids that it's fun to puzzle through challenging problems; turning off the time constraints also gives kids more time to think. Also, kids may be distracted by the between-level screens where they can play with the Snortles and beach balls; it would be great if math were somehow built into this activity as well. Overall, kids will enjoy the narrative, the design, and the challenge that adjusts to their level.
