Kids Numbers and Math

Fun games teach and reinforce numbers for young kids.

What parents need to know

Educational value

Kids can learn fundamental math skills such as counting, matching, addition, and subtraction with Kids Numbers and Math. Kids can also practice problem-solving using both visual clues and numbers. For example, the app displays addition and subtraction problems both numerically and using pictures, such as apples, which allows young kids who are still learning numbers to solve the problems by counting the images. As a bonus, kids can also learn to count in five different languages with this app. Kids Numbers and Math offers focused, fun practice to help kids master basic math skills.

Ease of play

Once kids begin playing individual games within the app, the voice commands and visual cues make the games very easy to play, as long as kids know the basic addition and subtraction signs. Kids who can't yet read will likely need help selecting games from the menu since there are no voice commands for the menu.

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that Kids Numbers and Math teaches beginning math students a range of basic skills: number recognition and basic counting; addition and subtraction; and more complex mixed addition/subtraction problems. There's an option to change the language preference so kids can learn to count in five other languages. The paid version allows parents to set the numbers range to match their child's current learning level.

What's it about?

Kids complete straightforward math problems to strengthen fundamental math skills such as adding, subtracting, comparing, and matching. Kids count objects from images on the screen to solve problems or use the numbers in traditional math problem format. A wide range of settings options allows parents to customize the games.

Is it any good?

For preschoolers and early elementary school kids who already know a bit of basic math, KIDS NUMBERS AND MATH can help reinforce those skills in fun ways with colorful games and encouraging voice-over instructions. For toddlers or preschoolers just learning about numbers and counting, you may need to guide them through the basics presented here a few times. Enabling the shake effects changes the games up with very little shake and without much warning, which may be confusing and frustrating for some kids.

Families can talk about...

  • Set up addition and subtraction problems using real-life objects and write out number cards to help kids practice math off-line in the same way as in the app.

  • Turn off the "shake" effects if they're disruptive to your kid's gameplay.

Great App for preschoolers to about 2nd graders/3rd graders!!

My daughter really likes this game. She has played it for about a year. Great app for preschoolers to about 2nd graders/3rd graders. Perfect for working on simple facts, but has the possibility to grow with the child.
