What's it about?
Sign in with your Apple ID to start a subscription and gain access to MATH LEARNER: EASY MATHEMATICS. Then, enter your kid's age and how many minutes per day you want to practice to get started. Exercises start easy with simple addition, and then progress through equations with numbers made of multiple digits and through subtraction, multiplication, and division. To answer, kids draw numbers and calculations directly on the screen and then confirm that the app has read their writing correctly. Kids must pass levels to unlock higher ones, but can also take a test to jump directly to a higher level. Kids get rewards for finishing each lesson packet.
Is it any good?
Math equations give kids lots of practice calculating sums, differences, products, and quotients in a spiffy format, but don't expect more than just plain old drills. Math Learner: Easy Mathematics is neatly organized, with equations that progress in difficulty according to some kind of logical method -- as claimed by the developer. Drawing numbers on the screen also works very well and allows kids to be a bit more physically involved in manipulating the numbers than if they had to simply tap numbers on a keyboard. There's some help when kids answer a calculation incorrectly, but unfortunately, the text is either minimal or explains things in a confusing way so as to make it not all that helpful. That makes the "lessons" not so much lessons, but really collections of drills. The rewards system -- which gives kids items to dress up a pet dog -- is really the only element of fun. Overall, though the content is of average quality, it's not clear enough why these drills are worth paying the steep subscription price.
