Familiar song used to sort animals that belong on a farm.
A Lot or a Little?
What you will—and won't—find in this app.
Ease of Play
The game is easy for little hands, especially dragging and dropping animals from a circle to a cut-out of the animal.
Violence & Scariness
When an animal that doesn't belong on a farm is selected, one of four animations occurs, including a swift kick from a donkey that sends the animal flying. It is meant to be silly (as are the other three animations that include disappearing in a cloud of smoke, falling into a hole in the ground, or being dragged away by the farmer using his tractor.)

Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Old MacDonald-HD is a fun way for toddlers to learn what animals belong on the farm and which ones don't. The game is pretty easy for the youngest App users to grasp the first time. And yes, as you can guess from the name, you will hear the song "Old MacDonald" over and over and over again while your child plays the game. This is a review of the high definition iPad version. Another version is available for iPhone and iPod Touch for $.99.

Is It Any Good?
The animals in OLD MACDONALD-HD are darling and fun for kids to drag to their rightful place on the farm while they quack or oink. Watching the donkey give a swift kick to animals that don't belong will probably crack kids up as well. The song is predictably annoying after a while (only parents will care), but parents will like that the game is a good jumping off point for exploring books with kids on different animal habitats.
