Users can pause, rewind, and fast-forward.

Is it any good?

There's a fun assortment of audio content -- fiction and nonfiction, game shows, science podcasts, and more -- on this app. Pinna Children's Audio Stories includes old favorites like Clifford the Big Red Dog -- just a 3-minute listen for little kids -- to 159-minute science shows, such as The Planets and The Solar System. Pinna includes Peabody-winning original series, classic fairy tales, and musical-based shows. Whether Pinna: Audio Stories for Kids is worth the subscription price depends on how much your kid likes listening to spoken audio content and how much new content is added weekly. The variety of choices at the time of this review is impressive, and the depth of content is solid. It would be nice to see some additional control features, such as the ability to build a queue of your listening choices, or mark favorites for easy finding later.

Talk to your kids about ...

  • Families can talk about how to select a podcast or story by category on Pinna: Audio Stories for Kids. Talk about what sorts of stories and shows they'll find under categories like adventure, family, science and nature, and mystery. Or explore the differences between podcasts, audiobooks, and music selections.

  • If your kid doesn't like to read but loves podcasts and audio books (which can be great for listening and auditory processing skills), check out Common Sense Media's article My kid can read but prefers to be read to. Is that OK?

  • Encourage your kids to record their own audio "podcast" about a topic they're interested in and know lots about.
