A lot or a little?

The parents' guide to what's in this app.

Educational Value

Kids can learn through play, using their imaginations and role-playing. They'll get to rescue captured birds and see them fly along with them, now free, and they'll learn to cope with a bit of fright as the fantasy creatures snip and grab at their planes. Parents can enhance kids' learning experiences by talking to them about the adventures the planes have been on and allowing kids to create stories to improve verbal skills, problem-solving skills, and creativity. Overall, toddlers and preschoolers learn through play, and though Planes Adventures by BUBL doesn't have a clear educational purpose, kids can create a narrative around their adventures, especially with encouragement.

Ease of Play

Planes can fly pretty much automatically, or kids can interact more and guide them.

Violence & Scariness

Mildly scary cartoon creatures.

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Planes Adventures by BUBL is a toddler-friendly flying game with graphics that will spark imagination with the colorful scenes and creatures kids encounter. Everything is presented visually with no reading required, and kids can simply tap and explore, as there's no wrong way to play. The flight ends after a short period of time, when the oil runs out. If kids want more of a challenge, they can collect rings or birds as they fly. Creatures sometimes reach for and chomp at the planes, which may be frightening. What's it about?

After choosing a plane and a scene at the start of PLANES ADVENTURES BY BUBL, kids guide the plane up and down along the flight path, avoiding obstacles, flying through rings, and collecting birds. As they play, kids can unlock additional planes. More than 30 planes are available, and kids choose scenes from a city, the forest, and space. Fantastical creatures join the planes throughout play, flying across the path. Skill level doesn't matter, really, as younger players can successfully fly and land without much effort, while older kids can interact and direct a little more, increasing the challenge of their experience.

Is it any good?

Fly through different landscapes, exploring the air and the chomping mystical creatures, but don't expect too much control. The bright colors and soothing soundtrack will appeal to kids' senses, and the flying adventures will excite the littlest players; kids who have played games with more control may be frustrated by the limited ability to fly the planes where you want to. Though there are 30 planes to choose from, with more unlocked as kids complete levels, the play is so similar throughout that kids may not stay engaged long enough to fly them all. Still, it's fascinating fun for a while.

Talk to your kids about ...

  • Families can talk about the different scenes and creatures that kids encounter. Are they silly? Scary? Funny?

  • Notice planes you see outside and wonder together where they might be going.
