Puzzling Penguins

Fun sliding puzzle game requires some tough brainwork.

What parents need to know

Ease of play

To solve these puzzles, you slide around your penguin and several blocks of ice until you get bird into the ice hole. You can only move things in straight lines, though, so you need to set up the ice blocks in ways that will direct your penguin toward the hole. It can be difficult, but there's no time limit and no maximum number of moves, so you can keep shifting stuff around until you eventually find the solution.

Is it any good?

Puzzling Penguins is one of several puzzle apps that require you to shift pieces around on a gameboard until you get the main piece (in this case, a cuddly penguin) to the exit. It is particularly similar to Iced In, but doesn't have that other app's steep difficulty curve. Puzzling Penguins is certainly not without its challenge factor -- certain levels can be quite tricky -- but on the whole, it seems better suited to kids who are taking their first shots at solving this type of sliding puzzle.
