Ultra-fast traffic control, but not nearly enough variety.

A lot or a little?

The parents' guide to what's in this app.

Ease of Play

You need to direct trains by swiping arrows at the intersections of many tracks. It's just the one easy control move to remember. The difficulty level of the game itself, however, is pretty high. Younger kids could get frustrated fast.

Trains can crash into one another with a crunch noise and a tiny ball of fire.

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Railroad Madness - iPad Edition is an extremely fast-paced "traffic control" game, in which you need to monitor a crazy crisscrossing mesh of train tracks, constantly switching the directions at intersections in order to make sure no trains crash. The super-quick pace of it all may be too much for younger kids. Also, be aware that there has been at least one instance of an online user posting profane names to the leaderboards.

Is it any good?

RAILROAD MADNESS - iPAD EDITION certainly forces you to stay on your toes with its rapid pace and insane crisscrossing of tracks. Directing trains through these maze-like boards is not easy, and fans of the "traffic control" genre looking for a challenge will find one here. There are only four different maps, though, and the lack of variety makes the app feel very slight. After playing each level a few times, you may be wondering where the rest of the game is. And the only differences between the levels are in the track layout and the background. Some sort of varying train types or different obstacles for each track would have gone a long way toward keeping the game interesting. Perhaps a future update will add more levels? We'll need to wait and see.
