Smart, funny story about a princess who rescues herself.

What parents need to know

Ease of play

The touch interface makes everything easy to control. The puzzles can be quite challenging and require advanced reading skills. If stuck, players can tap a button to reveal all the "hotspots" in an area that can be tapped.

One character is shown hitting another, and several threats of violence (such as beatings) are made.

Some mild sexual innuendo. One character makes several sleazy come-on lines to the princess, asking her for kisses.

Infrequent use of "bastard," "damn," "hell," and "arse."

There are some mildly suggestive themes, language, crude humor, and cartoonish violence, but nothing graphic or overtly explicit.

Is it any good?

SCARLETT AND THE SPARK OF LIFE: SCARLETT ADVENTURES EPISODE 1 is an offbeat adventure with a wicked sense of humor, highly creative puzzles, and a strong and funny female protagonist who doesn't behave like a stereotypical video game princess. Challenges are divided into inventory-based puzzles, where players pick up items and figure out how to use them in the environment, and dialog-based puzzles that involve listening carefully to the other characters and choosing the right things to say. All in all it's a wonderful treat for adventure game fans, even in spite of the open-ended finale that sets the stage for Episode 2.
