Skrappy - Scrapbook & Photo Album for Digital Scrapbooking

Great all-in-one media album tool once you get hang of it.

What parents need to know

Ease of play

There is an extensive introductory guide to using all of the tools available, but the amount of text and information can be overwhelming. This guide stays available as its own scrapbook so users can return to review it after they begin working. The small, translucent control buttons can be a bit difficult to see on the page. The controls for inserting objects are very straightforward, but modifying existing objects can take more time as users learn when to tap, double tap, or tap and hold to bring up the correct menus.

Violence

Users can search for any images or websites on the web using public photo sites or Google. Safe search is automatically set to moderate; strict search is also available.

Sex

One of the included themes is romance. Users can search for any images or websites on the web using public photo sites or Google. Safe search is automatically set to moderate; strict search is also available.

Language

Users can search for any images or websites on the web using public photo sites or Google. Safe search is automatically set to moderate; strict search is also available.

Consumerism

The developer's website is linked to as an example and as the homepage when adding a page from the web to a scrapbook. A link from the settings menu includes an option to send email to the developer with feedback.

Drinking, drugs, & smoking

A clip art image of a wine glass is included on the recipe theme page. A picture of a bottle is also included in the clip art gallery. Users can search for any images on the web using public photo sites or Google. Safe search is automatically set to moderate; strict search is also available.

Privacy & safety

Minor privacy concerns. Users can share scrapbooks (which may contain photos, audio clips, and other private information) via email or iTunes file sharing.

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that Skrappy - Scrapbook & Photo Album for Digital Scrapbooking is a powerful tool that allows users to compile many forms of media into one album, then share it. The many options included make this a creative tool for older kids, but it may overwhelm younger ones. The app begins with a long, text-based user guide. Users can then create scrapbooks using pre-existing themes such as romance, my music, or recipes, or using a photo or blank page. Within the scrapbook, users can add text, photos, clip art, videos, music, images or pages from the web, or even record their own audio. The option to search pages or images from the web using public photo sites or Google may expose kids to mature content. Finished scrapbooks can be exported to PDF format and shared via email or iTunes file sharing.

QUALITY

SKRAPPY is a great way for kids (and adults!) to bring all of their digital media together into one app. Being able to add music, video, and audio recordings enhances a typical paper scrapbook, and it's great to easily save and share several albums. There are a few concerns for younger kids -- there are so many options available that it takes some time to get used to the controls, and kids may find mature content when searching the web.

Nice program

I wanted to share that I printed out a copy of my skrappy album through the website bookemon.com. I exported it as a pdf to the site. The photo quality and resolution was very good, as was the formatting. For those wondering about printing out skappy books, this is a good option.

Disappointing if you want to make real scrapbooks

Be careful before investing time in this app! I just spent 8 hours creating an awesome digital scrapbook for my daughter only to find that I can not figure out the page size or DPI or export in JPG in order to send it to Shutterfly to print. I am devastated! It is a great app with awesome features, but what is the point if you can’t get a good quality project out of it? Hours wasted!
