Just Some Info

The image used here is the image for the 2010 port, which was just an emulator with the original sonic 2 ROM. However, the app has been updated with certain features such as the hidden palace zone (not to be confused with the sonic and knuckles hidden palace zone) from the original prototype games of sonic 2 by fan Christian Whitehead. It also includes widescreen and an actual save system. There is so much more but that is just the stuff that I liked.

Is It Any Good?

Sonic’s second adventure, now nearly two decades old, comes to mobile devices in this faithful, warts-and-all port of Sega’s SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2. Sonic zips around loops and through tubes, jumps on platforms and enemies, collects golden rings, and searches out hidden power ups, including speedy boots and extra lives. Sonic’s buddy Tails runs alongside him but is currently unplayable (Sega says two-player cooperative play will come via a free update at some point, but the game is currently only for one player).

Fans of retro platformers will undoubtedly get a kick out of this rerelease, but they may be disappointed by the virtual controls, which simply aren’t as comfortable or reliable as a traditional physical controller. And make sure you don’t spend money on something you already have; Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has been a part of several recent Sega collections for platforms including the Nintendo DS, Sony PSP, PlayStation2, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
