StretchyBand App Poster Image

Making music with a real rubber band would be more fun.

What parents need to know

Ease of play

Players manipulate the instruments by simply tapping and dragging their finger, but the app's capabilities are not intuitive. It takes some time playing around to figure out exactly what the app can do, and the results can be disappointing.

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that StretchyBand is a simple app for manipulating synthesized sounds. It's pretty straightforward, but the overall concept (imitating the way rubber bands behave when plucked) falls a bit flat. Also, kids might tire of the app before they've explored all its features since it's not entirely intuitive and the interface is clunky.

Is it any good?

STRETCHYBAND is an app that lets users manipulate sound by imitating the way rubber bands make different noises based on how they're plucked. There are various synth instruments (like horns, keyboard, and guitar) that are presented as small on-screen bands that users pluck by tapping or dragging their fingers on the screen, or shaking the device. While it's a neat concept, the range and variety of sounds that can be made is disappointingly lackluster, and users have surprisingly little control over how the bands themselves behave. There are plenty of apps for manipulating sounds in fun and quirky ways; in this case, kids might be better off playing with a real rubber band.
