What parents need to know

Ease of play

Gameplay may be a big challenge for the intended age group, since the letters given for word construction don't always combine to make many words. Game instructions are clear to people familiar with arcade-type games. The game can be paused at any time.

Violence

The game includes arcade-game violence, with shooting at a snake made of letters, and having body segments disappear. The snake also automatically shoots down at the shooter, with direct hits temporarily paralyzing him.

Language

Only words in the game dictionary are accepted.

Consumerism

Privacy & safety

Minor privacy concerns. Players can opt in to Apple’s Game Center to track scores and achievements, and for some games, challenge friends. With Game Center, players can send and receive friend requests using an email address or Game Center nickname, revealing the first and last name associated with each party’s Apple ID and, in the case of email requests, the sender’s email address.

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that Super Cosmic Word Snake is a fast-paced, word-building arcade game, similar to the classic game Centipede, that can be played by one or two players. In a one-player game, players construct words as fast as they can to add on to the word snake while the game's artificial intelligence shoots at the word snake to eliminate the body segments. The first letter of any word that players need to construct is the last letter from the previous word. Once accepted, the word gets tacked on to the end of the snake. In a two-player game, one person crafts the words, and the other shoots at the word snake. Users can share high scores via the Game Center social network, but participation is optional.

QUALITY

SUPER COSMIC WORD SNAKE is a fun but difficult word-building game. The look is a very retro, arcade style that is reminiscent of days gone by. The game itself works much like the old Centipede arcade game. Unless someone is very unsuccessful while shooting at the snake, the snake will always get eliminated before it reaches the shooter. The challenge for the word crafter is to keep the game going for as long as possible. The strategy of entering longer words that take more hits to be eliminated may backfire in that it takes much longer to think up those words from the given letters. Short words often keep the game going longer.
