Super Home Hero

Can doing the laundry be fun? On this app, yes!

What parents need to know

Educational value

Kids can learn math and critical thinking skills while learning that laundry is an important part of family chores on Super Home Hero. The in-game questions can spark conversation between parents (or caregivers) and kids, helping kids practice question-based discussions. The mini-games help kids learn to follow directions while learning basic preschool math skills like counting and sequencing. Helping with laundry in a family is a wise decision, and kids learn that and more in the short but sweet Super Hero Home.

Ease of play

Very easy to play. Parents and caregivers are instructed when opening the app that they need to be involved to help kids with certain questions and related simple discussions. Yellow highlights around objects show kids what to tap. There's lots of positive voice audio encouragement.

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that Super Home Hero is a short, funny, and educational game that parents and their preschoolers can play together to encourage good laundry habits and basic skills in math, science, and critical thinking. There's laundry all over the house, and kids need to help the in-app super hero kid wash, dry, and fold it by completing tasks for badges. Super Home Hero is easy to finish in a few minutes, and there's only one storyline, so this may be an app that kids want to play just a few times. Still, it's free, it's fun, and it reinforces good habits.

What's it about?

Little Super Hero needs help. The laundry has taken over the house, and it's your kid's job to help get it done. First, get five "dirt monsters" out of the clothes in the wash by tapping them and counting down to earn your washing badge. When completed, a "Now It's Time to Think!" screen appears, which includes a question ("How does a dryer sound?") to prompt discussion between parent and kid. Kids then earn two other badges in drying and folding, which require critical thinking and pattern skills. An excellent, engaging game for preschoolers.

Is it any good?

SUPER HOME HERO makes a fun, educational preschool game out of laundry by pairing the tasks with fun characters and cool super hero voices and music. Created by the Fred Rogers Center, this well-designed app involves simple tasks that are manageable for preschoolers while keeping the entire badge-earning experience -- from washing machine to folding -- brief so that parents can sit down and play the entire game with their preschooler with just a few minutes of time to spare.

Families can talk about...

  • This app was created to be played together. It doesn't take more than a few minutes to complete, so enjoy it with your kid.

  • The "Time to Think!" questions are intended to spark discussion, so the answers you and your kid provide can be funny or serious.

Super Home Hero is fun

My son (age 3.5) loves this app. It does teach a good role model about helping your family. After seeing this he has been excited to help with the laundry just like the character in the app. He even asked to dress up like "Super Home Hero" the other day. It teaches some math concepts like patterns and counting.
