Did we miss something on diversity?

Research shows a connection between kids' healthy self-esteem and positive portrayals in media. That's why we've added a new "Diverse Representations" section to our reviews that will be rolling out on an ongoing basis. You can help us help kids by suggesting a diversity update.

A lot or a little?

The parents' guide to what's in this app.

Educational Value

Kids can learn new ways to move, and about the importance of relaxation and breathing. They'll also learn a bit about the meanings behind different yoga poses, which may help connect them to the movements (and make it extra fun to really act like a tree in tree pose!). Super Stretch Yoga HD is an encouraging, no-stress intro to beginning poses, breathing, and the philosophy of yoga practice.

Ease of Play

Design is simple and easy-to-use. However, once kids start a video, they can't leave the screen until it's over.

Violence & Scariness
Sexy Stuff

Refer to “tushie” as in directions for the downward facing dog pose in which kids lean on their palms and feet and put their bottoms in the air like a stretching dog.

Drinking, Drugs & Smoking

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Super Stretch Yoga HD offers a kid-friendly guide to 12 different yoga poses and lots of gentle encouragement to get moving. Each pose is introduced by a short animation, and a live video with kids attempting the pose and the animated Super Stretch explaining what they’re doing. Kids can use the device’s camera to take pictures of themselves doing poses, which go directly to your device’s photo library, so they stay private. Super Stretch promotes the NAMASTE code of ethics, using Namaste as an acronym covering various tenets like "Act with kindness," or "Enjoy and have fun."

What's it about?

Journey with blanket-caped kid superhero Super Stretch through 12 yoga poses Each pose starts with an animated animal that represents the name or essence of the pose (for example, golden retriever Audo the Down Dog, who responds to a bad day by getting down on his front paws and waving his tail in the air to release tension), then moves on to a short live video showing kids attempting the pose while Super Stretch explains. Kids can pick and choose, or cycle through all 12 poses. Between each pose, kids are encouraged to take a moment to breathe deeply. After watching 12 pose videos in a row, kids are rewarded with the chance to to take a photo of themselves in their favorite pose.

Is it any good?

Kids will like the cute animations that demonstrate each pose, and Super Stretch provides lots of gentle encouragement that assure kids that it's all about doing your best, not being perfect. The presentations move a little quickly for the beginners they're aimed toward, though; while kids can pause videos, it would be nice to see a bit more time for reflection and exploration. You also can’t exit out of a video once it’s started, which is a bit of an annoyance. And after mastering the 12 poses, kids may be left wanting to learn more. But overall, the app offers a warm, fun welcome to the world of yoga.

Talk to your kids about ...

  • Families can talk about why people all over the world do yoga. Talk to kids about how doing yoga poses makes them feel.

  • Why is it important to take deep breaths? Why is it important to move, but also to relax?

  • Do the yoga poses with your kids and have fun moving, stretching, breathing, and relaxing together.
