What’s It About?
Little kids can practice up to seven basic learning themes with TODDLER EDUCATIONAL LEARNING GAMES-EDUKITTY FREE. The paid version adds six more games. Kids listen carefully to the instructions, then tap to, for example, match socks, select the biggest item, choose the egg on the left, or find the letter "a." Games generate randomly and endlessly, though after every three levels, there's a pause for kids to "stamp" a picture. Parents can customize play by choosing from three difficulty levels and 12 languages and choosing which games to include or leave out.
Is It Any Good?
This collection of kid-friendly activities has some nice features, but the developer's learning claims seem overblown as games are mostly uninspired and pushes to buy make it less OK for toddlers. Kids can play Toddler Educational Learning Games-EduKitty Free in their choice of 12 languages, which can be fun for multilingual families, non-English-speaking families, or families that want their kids to learn a foreign language. Three levels of difficulty and turning games on and off give parents some flexibility to make play right for their kids. However, the difference between the difficulty levels is simply how many "distractor" items there are for kids to choose from, and this ends up being a bit of a disappointment. Thank goodness parents can silence the background music because it can get quite grating and makes the play experience feel frenetic. Despite these positive features, the games themselves aren't particularly creative and don't get high marks for adding something special to kids' learning experience. Then there's the tricky matter of the title including the word "free," when in reality the app is not entirely free. Parents may feel misled when they discover that the free version simply offers limited access to a paid version plus numerous appeals to purchase the full version, which isn't an ideal model for kids.
