A lot or a little?

The parents' guide to what's in this app.

Ease of Play

There's a lot going on onscreen. And controls to handle shooting the zombies, arguably the most important part of the game, are far from intuitive.

Violence

Zombies aren't pacifists. They're shown eating human flesh. And you'll shoot them regularly, blowing off their limbs and head. Shooting barrels scattered throughout the game results in explosions that will kill even more of the undead. When zombies bite players, the screen is spattered with blood.

Sex

A buxom female character is shown in a skin-tight, skimpy top.

Language

Words like "hell" pop up occasionally.

Consumerism

A "more games" link on the main menu takes users to a screen promoting other Gameloft titles. Another link takes users to the Gameloft Twitter page.

Drinking, Drugs & Smoking

Billboards in the game feature ads for a fake beer.

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Zombie Infection HD is a survival action adventure game where the sole point is to kill the undead (and stay alive yourself). Violence is nonstop and it's possible to dismember zombies, who will continue to attack you. Players can also take out zombies by stomping them on the head, which results in a squishing sound and an explosion of blood. The graphics are fairly low quality, so the blood and guts will never be mistaken for something realistic, but it's still jarring. And when a zombie bites the player, the screen shows a blood splatter coming from the hero. Players can opt in to Gameloft's interactive feature, which includes live open chat.

Is it any good?

Zombie Infection HD tries to follow the path set by classic zombie survival games like Resident Evil 4, but it falls far short. The graphics are middling, at best. The story is ridiculous. And the zombies really aren't that scary. The game also features some sloppy programming -- like when zombies crawl through the middle of a roof, instead of up the side of a building. The controls aren't intuitive and don't react fast enough for a game in this genre. For 99 cents, it might be worth it for fans of zombie films. For anything more, though, it's not worth it for anyone.
