Zombieville USA

(i)

Cute cartoon characters belie bloody mayhem to come.

What parents need to know

Ease of play

This game has a long opening sequence that you have to sit through every time you're killed and have to restart a level, which is often. Otherwise, it's easy to use, with conveniently placed controls and informative bullet and health gauges. Successfully reaching an increment of five saves you from having to start over at the very first level.

Violence

The violence is cartoony but graphic and relentless. Players use a variety of weapons -- shotguns, knives, flamethrowers -- to blow away the tops of zombies' heads. The bodies spurt copious amounts of blood and keel over on the sidewalk. If you don't kill zombies first or avoid them by hiding inside houses, they will decapitate you with vicious karate chops.

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that this cartoony zombie-killing game features characters shedding a lot of blood. On the bright side, it's a completely safe, closed single-player environment.

Is it any good?

QUALITY

Zombieville USA -- not to be confused with the inferior Zombie Ville -- is very challenging and extremely addictive. The cartoony zombies are laughable; that is, until they decapitate you with lightning-fast karate chops. You'll pat yourself on the back every time you level up. The variety of weapons, zombies, and zombie-fighting characters give this game a surprising amount of depth.

The game has moderate animated violence but contains a lot of blood. The violence is not graphic and its cartoon, but it could be disturbing for some kids

Fun Zombie app is up there with Zombie Highway or Zombie Infection.

Zombieville USA is fun, but gets really hard around level 15. You might be a little shocked by the gore at first but it is so cartoony that it doesn't really matter.
