Save animals with just the right amount of tilt.

What parents need to know

Ease of play

Overall, this app has simple controls. Tilt the device to navigate and touch the screen to make the helicopter go up. The difficulty rises quickly, especially for a novice gamer, and the obstacles don't always behave as expected. Some of the navigation buttons on the map's main menu are not intuitive, and there are a few places where the lack of a "back" button makes it tricky to leave a screen you don't want to be on.

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that Zoo Rescue is an arcade-style game that asks you to rescue a band of animals that have escaped from the zoo. This is accomplished by flying a helicopter down into a ravine and picking the animal up via a dangling rope. As the game progresses, you'll deal with more and more challenges, from a shortage of gas and steeply sloping ravine walls to hurricanes and sharp rocks. Pick up the animals as quickly as possible in a given level without damaging your helicopter or the animals on the rock walls and you'll be awarded bonus points.

Is it any good?

QUALITY

ZOO RESCUE is a game that's mostly about a fine touch and the ability to control movement by tilting your device. For fans of the arcade genre, this holds just the right amount of challenge and fun. For those who prefer a bit more strategy, you won't find it here. Younger children may enjoy the game, but will have a very difficult time with the subtle movement necessary to fly the helicopter safely in and out of the ravine. The most advanced levels have multiple animals to rescue and multiple obstacles, and they are likely to be frustrating for casual players. With 20 levels, Zoo Rescue is a great value, even if it tests your patience.
